Walk to the Park Change

Just a quick update on our May event-  we have decided to postpone it until we find out what is going on with our ward.  Since our ward could possibly have a boundary change, we're not sure who will still be in the ward and we want to wait until all of that is sorted out.  We'll keep you posted on what the new date will be for our fun walk to the park!

Project: Brother of Jared

Dear wonderful, amazing mothers that I look up to,

I want you to know how grateful I am for each of you. As I associate and spend time with you, I admire your unique strengths and try to emulate them in my own life. I am continually awed by your kindness, goodness, thriftiness, strength, faith, and charity. I want each of you to know that you have answered my prayers on many occasions, and most of you without even knowing it. Often times I will be amazed at how together you seem in your lives, and I feel envious, or even guilty that my life isn't that way. However, I know each of us has her own personal battles that may never surface on the outside of her seemingly perfect life. Here's what I want to tell you.

To those of you who are feeling lost, sad, discouraged, frustrated, scared, worried, or confused at this new phase of your life, you are not alone. Even if this feels like the loneliest time of your life, know that I feel that way, too. While many days are happy and wonderful, there are others that are truly, very difficult. And that's ok. Some days, it's a struggle to even make the bed because I feel so alone or depressed. Most days I look in the mirror and am so discouraged by what I see staring back at me. Often I feel like it's easy to love everyone else, but almost impossible to love myself.

So, I took the plunge, and looked into symptoms of Postpartum Depression. And guess what, it's way more common than I thought. There is nothing wrong with looking for some help. You don't have to feel that being depressed and worthless is just part of being a mom. It's not. Everyone has tough days, but if you feel like no matter what you try there's still happiness missing, have the courage to look into it. I feel like I'm finally going to get the help I need, and while I'm a bit scared about it, I also have an overwhelming sense of peace from my Heavenly Father that it's going to be alright.

This is all part of what I'm calling "Project: Brother of Jared." Just like the Brother of Jared, we can pray for answers, but if we're not doing our part, the Lord can't bless us as much as he'd like to. I can't pray for happiness if I'm not willing to show some courage and try different ways to be happy. I can't pray that I won't feel lonely, and then not make the effort to get out my house during the day. So my new goal is to make sure that I'm putting in the effort to allow the Lord to bless me. I'm sure each of you already does this, but if you need a little boost, this has been helping me so far.

Please know that I'm here for each of you, and I love you very much. I feel that so many of you have already helped me immensely, and there's no way I could ever repay the kindness, rides, gifts, calls/texts, that you have given me. So if any of you are struggling and need somewhere to turn, I'm here.

Love,
A New and Hopeful Mom

Italian Bread Crumb Recipes

Here are a few super easy bread crumb recipes that make buying a tub of seasoned dried bread crumbs worth it! Lots of these you can make up ahead of time so that all you have to do in the evening is pop it in the oven. Also, almost anything coated in bread crumbs tastes even better if you add a little grated parmesan cheese to the mix. :) Enjoy!

Breaded Chicken
* boneless skinless chicken breast
*egg
*bread crumbs
*jarred spaghetti sauce
*cheese (mozarella, parmesan, whatever!)

Dip chicken in egg and then dredge in bread crumbs. Bake in oven at 350 for 45 minutes. Top with some spaghetti sauce and cheese and pop it back in the oven for 5ish minutes (until cheese is melted). Makes a yummy easy chicken entree.

Rancy breaded fish...stuff :)
*Tilapia fillets
*egg
*bread crumbs (about 1/2 C.--adjust to your tastes)
*1 oz pkg dry ranch drsg mix

Mix bread crumbs and ranch drsg mix. Dip tilapia in egg and then bread crumb/ranch mixture. Bake at 375 for about 10ish minutes (when fish flakes with a fork). Super fast and easy!

Breaded Eggplant
*sliced eggplant (1 medium one is a good amount)
*bread crumbs (about 1/2 C.?)
*grated parmesan cheese (about 1/4 C.?)
*fat free italian salad dressing

Mix bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. Dip eggplant slices in salad dressing and then bread crumb/cheese mixture. Put in single layer on sprayed/greased baking sheet and bake at 450 for 6-8 minutes on each side (longer if you like it crunchier).

I hope you find these recipes useful. I'd LOVE it if people posted some of their super easy go-to recipes--it's fun to share!

Oh, and if you don't want to buy a tub of bread crumbs, you can make your own by toasting bread in the oven (225 for about 15 minutes on each side). Tear them into strips and put in a food processor or blender (until they're fine crumbs). Add Italian seasoning (about 1/2 tsp per cup dried bread crumbs). Voila!
